One day, a migrant member of the Subanen Tribe from Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte, happened to pass by a vast land, rich with tall trees, and wild animals. Aside from these, he became interested of its fertile soil. So, the migrant along with his tribe decided to stay and inhabit this place. Most of the trees found in the area are Lawaan Trees. Hence, the place was called Lawaan.
